An explosive extraveganza - X2: X-Men United Reviews

Bryan Singer's follow-up to 2000's X-Men is pumped up 10 degrees higher than the original and has more of the feeling of a typical X-Men storyline. Brian Cox plays the evil General Stryker, whose devious plan will use Professor Xavier's powers to wipe out all mutants everywhere. This causes an odd team-up with former foes Magneto and Mystique with the X-Men in order to stop Stryker and rescue Profesor X. Doesn't this sound like a plot for a few months' issues of an X-Men comic? Brian Singer really captures each individual mutant's powers a lot better than the first one. Fans who want to see Wolverine go full beserko get it. Fans who want to see Storm, Magneto, Jean Grey, and Pyro at the full extent of their powers get their wish. The addition of Nightcrawler to the team just extends the impressive X-Men roster. His opening scene in the White House is just stunning (complete with Mozart's requiem). The acting is a bit stiff at times, especially Halle Berry's Storm who is the weakest character in the new movies compared to the comic books. Then ending is great especially for those who can forsee what is coming, and I thouroughly am anticipating X3!
